16. PLEVEN REGIONAL MUSEUM OF HISTORY
The Regional Museum of History in Pleven boasts one of the richest exhibitions in Bulgaria.
The Antiquity Hall showcases artefacts discovered in the Roman city of Ulpia Oescus (village of Gigen) and in the late Roman and early Byzantine fortress Storgozia near Pleven: architectural details, multicoloured floor mosaics, sculptures and bronze images of deities of the Greco-Roman pantheon, household items, golden ornaments. The museum’s lapidarium features exhibits and stone monuments unearthed during the excavations of the ancient city of Ulpia Oescus and the Storgozia fortress.
