For the third consecutive year, the Danube municipalities attracted the interest of the numerous ITB visitors in the German capital city of Berlin! A delegation of the Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube", composed by Mayors, Presidents of Municipal Councils and Municipal Councilors, participated in the program of the world's leading tourism fair and demonstrated the richness of the Danube region in Bulgaria.

During the opening ceremony at the Bulgarian stand, the representatives of the Danube municipalities met with the Minister of Tourism Mrs. Nikolina Angelkova to discuss the possibilities of attracting more tourists to the region.

In 2018, besides ат ITB Berlin, the routeс wере promoted at some of the most visited fairs in Bulgaria and Romania (Vacation & SPA, Weekend Tourism, TTR). "Roman frontier" and "Protected natural heritage" also impressed the guests of the 2nd International Congress of World Civilizations and Historic Routes.

On September 22nd, the fortress Sexaginta Prista in Ruse lived in the atmosphere of the Roman market.

ADRM "Danube" participated in the antique festival, which became a traditional for the beginning of the autumn. The team of the Association presented the promotional materials: catalogue, brochure, 120-minute film, website and mobile application developed within the project "Development and promotion of an integrated cultural heritage tourism product: Route" Roman frontier within the cross-border region Romania-Bulgaria".

Sexaginta Prista and "Roman Market at Sexaginta Prista" are an essential part of the tourist route, which has attracted the interest of many guests and visitors of the event. The "Roman Frontier" tourist route was created to promote and preserve the Roman sites, and in 2018 it is part of the "European Year of Cultural Heritage" initiative.

ADRM "Danube" participated in the third edition of the International Antique Roman Festival "Nike - the Game and the Victory", which took place on August 25th and 26th on the territory of the Roman town of Nicopolis ad Istrum.

The Association's team presented the promotional materials: a catalog, a brochure, a 120-minute film, a website and a mobile application developed within the project "Development and promotion of an integrated cultural heritage tourism product: Route" Roman froentier within the cross-border region Romania-Bulgaria". The participants and the guests of the festival had the opportunity to receive the attractive materials for the tourist route.

Both the Roman town of Nicopolis ad Istrum and the international festival are included in the route, which is part of the initiatives dedicated to 2018 as European Year of Cultural Heritage. The festival was organized for the first time in 2016. The program includes re-enactments of Roman rituals, ancient Roman fashion, slaves market, gladiato­rial games, demonstrations of Roman and barbarian armament as well as battles from the period of the Roman-Dacian and Roman-Gothic wars. The traditional crafts market includes: Roman cuisine, a display of jewellery and ornaments, coinage and pottery.

Partici­pants are groups from Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, re-enactors and craftsmen from all over Bulgaria, audience. Organizers of the event are "Future for Nikyup", Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo, Regional Museum of History - Veliko Tarnovo, Town Hall of Nikyup. The two-day festival is part of the cultural calendars of the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo and of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Project "Development and promotion of an integrated cultural heritage tourism product: Route “Roman frontier within the cross-border region Romania-Bulgaria", which was implemented in partnership between the Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube" and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Navigation and Agriculture - Constanta (Romania) became part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 campaign. The project was funded under the Cross-Border Cooperation Program Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria 2014-2020.

The aim of the project is to increase the sustainable use of the common cultural heritage within the cross-border region through the development and promotion of an integrated tourism product in the area of ​​cultural and historical heritage: Route "Roman frontier within the cross-border region Romania-Bulgaria".

The development of cultural and historical tourism is particularly important for the Danube region, where prints of many cultural strata and rich natural heritage can be found. The Danube municipalities have recognized the development of cultural and historical tourism as a priority sectoral policy at local and regional level. Therefore, the Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube" has developed a thematic project, which aims to establish a cultural and historical tourist route and link the sites of the Roman heritage on both sides of the Danube.

The project and its outcomes correspond directly to the objectives of the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage initiative: to encourage more people to discover and study Europe's cultural heritage and to enhance the sense of belonging of Europeans to the common European family. In 2018, the focus is on the value of cultural heritage for society; his contribution to the economy; its role in European cultural diplomacy; the importance of its preservation for future generations. All these aspects of the cultural and historical heritage fall within the scope of the project "Development and promotion of an integrated cultural heritage tourism product: Route “Roman frontier within the cross-border region Romania-Bulgaria".

By promoting the route in 2018 ADRM "Danube" will use the logo of the visual identity of the European Year of Cultural Heritage as a recognition that it contributes to the realization of the initiative's goals.

Today, in the city of Ruse, the XIVth tourist expo "Weekend Tourism" was opened. The Association of Danube River Municipalities "Danube" presented the tourist potential of the Danube region as well as its two cross-border tourist routes "Roman Frontier" and "Protected Natural Heritage".The event was officially opened by the Minister of Tourism Ms. Nikolina Angelkova and the Mayor of Ruse, Mr. Plamen Stoilov.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of ADRM "Danube" and in connection with the good cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, Ms. Angelkova received Jubilee award from the Association.
